FASHION WEEK IN PROGRESS

So, I mentioned that I am taking over the Fashion Weeks Tents as special event venues.
Fashion week starts on the 9th, so I stopped by the tents for a quick behind-the-scenes peek today. The tents are HUGE. The entrance in FABULOUS. What a difference from the old cramped quarters of Bryant Park.
The entry marquee is as tall as the Met Opera. I have a feeling the MB logo will be featured prominently!
Right now there are hundreds of workers nailing, climbing, bolting, draping and sawing. What I saw of the drapery looked very cool, tones of grey and cream. But that's all I can say. The rest I hope you're lucky enough to see yourself!

Tulips & Pansies, A Headress Affair

Just came across a fond memory.
Early this summer I participated in a fashion show to benefit Village Care, a not-for-profit organization that provides support for people with HIV/AIDS.
20 or so floral designers were paired with fashion designers such as Valentino, Betsy Johnson, and for me, Lela Rose.
We were charged with the task of creating a fantasy floral headress for our model. In my case I created a cloud of thousands of orchid blossoms in which a hot air balloon seemed to float. In the condola of the balloon, Barbie wore a replica of the Lela Rose dress which was crafted entirely of organic materials such as eggplant skin, corn husk and hydrangea blossoms.
Now that's a hat!

In Honor of Restaurant Associates

Lincoln Center kicked off its Mostly Mozart Festival with a dinner honoring Dick Cattani, president of Catering by Restaurant Associates.
We brought the beach to the table tops in the form of clear cylinders filled with white shells, cattails rising from the marsh, and taper candles meant to invoke light houses.

Los Angeles Here We Are!

The other week we did an intimate dinner for a high level studio exec. in LA.
Muslin drape panels and a custom-made chandelier transformed a plastic tent into an elegant extension of the hosts' home.
Twenty four guests celebrated late in into the night, feasting on food prepared on-site by the fantastic NOBU.
Talk about a guest list!

Happy Birthday Lincoln Center

Sometimes only a balloon will do...

The theme here was affordably fabulous. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts was turning 50 and what better way to celebrate than with a kids' birthday party for adults?

Tens of thousands of orange and fuchsia balloons (the color of the LC logo) came together in an absolutely stunning way!

At table table top we created vignettes using vintage childrens' party toy and games. Throughout the dinnner, jax were tumbling, frisbees were flying and horns were tooting!

Behinds the stage we created a 20 foot tall "50" out of two thousand balloons!

Needles to say, everyone enjoyed the trip backwards in time. Happy Birthday Lincoln Center!!!
